Oshkosh is located in Winnebago County, and in the center of the state of Wisconsin where the Fox River connects Lake Winnebago on one side, and Lake Butte des Morts on the other.  The area of Oshkosh had humble beginnings with fur and logging trades.  It was the growth of the lumber industry here that was responsible for the majority of the city’s growth.  Like many industries to come, the waterways and railways helped Oshkosh develop and thrive.  By the late 1800’s, Oshkosh had become the third largest city in Wisconsin.  Today, Oshkosh is home to big business such as Oshkosh B’Gosh, Bemis packaging, and Oshkosh Corporation.  Unemployment rates in Oshkosh are ranked lower than the national average.
